A consummate outdoorsman, Joe originally hails from Georgia, though he now calls New York City his home. He spent a great deal of time hiking the Smokey Mountains honing his outdoor survival skills. Joe owes much to his involvement in the Cub and Boy Scouts to sparking a love of the great outdoors. Joe has hiked thousands of miles in the New York area for the past 15 years including guiding hundreds of trips since 2008. In 2008 he hiked the Appalachian Trail and tackled the Pacific Crest Trail in 2010. Fitness is a way of life for Joe being a Certified Personal Trainer. Additionally, he is a third degree black belt and a certified instructor who teaches private children's and adult classes for ages 3 and up including martial arts weapons. Joe takes every opportunity to leave NYC and hike, backpack, canoe and kayak in the tri-state area and beyond.
A native New Yorker and fifth grade teacher in an independent school, Missy balances her urban upbringing with finding peace and quiet hiking and kayaking during her weekends. A naturalist at heart, she has always had a love of the outdoors and enjoys bird watching or just sitting still atop a ridge taking it all in. She has accrued many miles on trails both in the U.S. and Europe. In 2010 Missy joined Joe on the PCT for a 500- mile section and relished every minute. Running is another activity that Missy thoroughly enjoys and she has completed numerous half-marathons and three NYC marathons.
Chief the Boston Terrier
Our main Guide Dog :) and honorary Wilderness First Responder, Chief has hiked over 2500 miles in the back country, not including canoeing or kayaking. In the picture below Chief is on the summit of Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks and New York State. Chief loves to bound up rocky trails like a little mountain goat and is pretty daring at times.
